Welcome to my blog, Our Future Is Mars. Today’s blog post is about that exact topic: Is our future actually Mars? Let’s dive in.
First, I want to explain what I mean by “Our Future Is Mars”. People have taken a few different interpretations to this. My initial idea was the fact that we are living on this planet as if we have a backup plan. Unfortunately, we don’t. We are living and consuming resources at an unsustainable rate and if the human species could live in the temperatures Mars has, we would easily consume those resources too. However, living on Mars is not realistic. Although they have land and water, they don’t have enough oxygen and they have radiation and air pressure levels that are much too high to live in comfortably. Our future is Mars because we are going to have to go somewhere else. That being said, Mars is obviously not the answer. I simply chose that name because Mars is currently trending in the scientific community. We as humans have landed a Rover on Mars, but that has only proven that the atmosphere there would not be livable for us humans.
Unlivable conditions is another common interpretation of my YouTube channel name. At the rate that we are destroying Earth, our near future could easily include conditions that mock the air of Mars. Also, Mars is made up of 14% water and who knows what percent of that is drinkable. Here on Earth, we could easily start experiencing poor air quality everywhere and find drought much more common. These are both effects of climate change. Life would be unenjoyable if our planet were like this, so my channel is fair warning of the most pessimistic outcome if it were possible. Ultimately, we don’t have another planet to go to so we need to start living sustainable lifestyles. No matter who you are.
I asked others throughout social media how they interpret “Our Future Is Mars” and I got a lot of interpretations similar to the explanations above. If you would like to share your view, please do.
