8/12/20- 5 Best Eco-Friendly Organizations to donate to

Updated: Aug 26, 2020

Right now, a lot of companies and businesses are in need of support. If you are looking to help someone else as well as our Earth, consider making a donation. You’re green will help these organizations be even more green!

The United States Environmental Protection Agency- Most people are already familiar with this one, and know them as the EPA. They do a lot of good work and you can’t go wrong giving them your support. Despite his involvement in Watergate, Richard Nixon founded the EPA nearly 50 years ago. The EPA protects the health of individuals and the environment. Recently, they have put money towards projects including major waste cleanups to help cities, monitor contamination in the fish of the great lakes, restoring habitats, and even help schools reduce lead contamination in their water.

Sierra Club- This nonprofit might not be as well-known, but they still do some great things, and donating to them will only help them increase their popularity. They are very influential. They fight for Earth’s natural resources, as well as everyone’s right to a healthy planet. They use donations wisely and responsibly, they rely heavily on this generosity from others. They also rely on their investments which allow them to multiply their earnings. Nearly 90% of all donations and earnings go straight to environmental programs. They have been working to reduce leaked methane (from oil production), increase clean energy consumption, and protect cotton forests. They even spent eight years making sure to protect the integrity of the Badlands which are home to wildlife, habitats, and plants that thrive in dry, desert-like areas.

Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)- You may have heard of this organization too. Most non-profits working to help our planet are doing great things, the EDF is no different. They focus on oceans, restoring ecosystems, human health, and of course, climate change. They find solutions that are scientifically proven to be helpful not harmful. They are politically smart and know what missions to support. However, there have been rumors of “greenwashing” (more on this next week), so donate at your own risk. Some critics say that the Environmental Defense Fund “greenwashes” Wal-Mart’s impact on the environment and natural resources. The two have had a long and difficult history. Aside from this, the foundation has done projects to increase usage of wind and solar energy, availability of EV chargers (for electric vehicles), increase popularity of electric cars, and generally fight for renewable energy.

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)- This non-governmental organization dedicates its time to focus on wildlife and lower human impact, when it is negative. It was founded in Switzerland in April, 1961. They try to lower our impact on the environment while preserving habitats for animals. They work to conserve important resources, make our world more sustainable, and protect natural habitats while restoring the species that live there. Currently, they are focusing on helping our Earth reach a zero-carbon climate, improve food availability, prevent deforestation, protect important species, keep fresh water fresh, and of course help keep oceans clean for aquatic life.

Greenpeace- This organization globally campaigns to change the world. With peaceful protests, creative communication, and intense commitment, Greenpeace looks at global issues and promotes solutions that are necessary for a sustainable, peaceful, and green future. Their activists have worked together to accomplish amazing things like banning commercial whaling, ending the process of nuclear testing, and keep Antarctica the frozen place it was intended to be. They are peacefully active in over 50 countries. They are working to prevent the continuation of global warming, deforestation on ancient land, our oceans from filling with microplastics, and a dangerous nuclear disaster from happening.

I hope this blog was informative and will inspire you to give to these organizations. They can always use the help and support. They have missions that will help the future and are only positive. Although I am not affiliated with any of them, the links below allow you to easily access their websites. Or if you are like me and can not afford to make a donation at this time, simply spread the word! Doing so is one step anyone can take. See you all next week. Peace.
